In this poignant 1983 drama, a Hong Kong youth named Alan Wong (Andy Lau) embarks on a quest for social ascension with the help of a foreign mistress and mixed ethnicity woman Erica, rising to high positions in real estate. His path converges with Cheung Ting Ting, a Mainland Chinese girl who has entered Hong Kong illegally, as he falls deeply in love with her. Tragedy strikes when Erica's jealousy leads to devastating consequences, forcing Alan and Ting to take drastic measures to escape their precarious situation.
