Two years after the first film, Zane Zaminsky is found dead in a remote Inuit community. His broadcast to the world about aliens is widely believed to have been a UFO hoax due to his dismissal from NASA despite Earth's record temperatures. Five people receive envelopes with details of an alien invasion: three scientists and Jack Addison, a computer expert whom he has not seen in seven years. They receive papers on global warming and terraforming Earth into a planet like their own dying world, but one of the five, Trevor Anguilar, turns out to be an alien, revealing an extraterrestrial technology that can suck everything into a "black hole bomb" or BHB.
