In this intense and unsettling drama, American architect Stourley Kracklite's life begins to unravel as he travels from America to Rome to oversee a personal architectural homage to 18th-century master builder Etienne-Louis Boullée. Meanwhile, his marriage is in tatters and his own health is deteriorating - he's obsessed with the idea of poisoning himself like the Roman Emperor Caesar Augustus, convinced that his much younger wife Louisa may be trying to do the same. As Kracklite's grip on reality falters, his world descends into chaos, culminating in a shocking and tragic finale at the exhibition's opening ceremony.
