Greer Garson stars as Jane Hoskins, a former housemaid who teams up with English gentleman thief Michael Wilding (playing twin brothers Nigel Duxbury and Lord Minden) to pull off a confidence game targeting wealthy society matrons. Their plans for a big score in California go awry when Nigel takes a job at the home of Julia Wortin, played by Marjorie Main, and Jane is drawn to her kindness despite their agreement to work together as con artists. In the end, they decide to end their criminal careers and face justice for their initial deception.
