An asteroid the size of Texas is heading towards Earth, threatening to wipe out all life on the planet in 18 days. NASA devises a plan to drill a deep hole into the asteroid and detonate a nuclear bomb to split it into two pieces that will each pass harmlessly around Earth. Enter Harry Stamper and his crew of rough-around-the-edges deep core drillers, who agree to help but only if they can bring their own team along for the ride.
