In this musical retelling of Cinderella, Leslie Caron stars as Ella, a mistreated scullery maid who escapes her stepfamily's oppression to find love with Prince Charles (Michael Wilding). With the help of her eccentric fairy godmother, Mrs. Toquet (Estelle Winwood), Ella attends a royal ball and captures the prince's heart before leaving behind one glass slipper as a clue to their identity.
