In a haunting and surreal descent into madness, "Calvaire" (2004) follows struggling singer Marc Stevens (Laurent Lucas), whose van breaks down in the remote woods of Liège, stranding him at a shuttered inn where he is taken in by enigmatic proprietor Mr. Bartel (Jackie Berroyer).
