The film tells the story of Marie Krøyer's stormy relationship with Peder Severin Krøyer, two of the Skagen Painters, in the late 19th century. The movie follows Marie (played by Birgitte Hjort Sørensen) as she navigates her life, including a happy marriage and motherhood, while struggling to fulfill her own dreams and desires.
