Dr. Linda Fleming (Melody Thomas Scott), a virologist and teacher, arrives on the tropical island of Barsarato to provide relief to those affected by an unknown virus transmitted through chickens. There, she meets Joseph (Ralf Moeller), a charismatic leader of a religious community that preaches alternative medicine, who gains the trust of the local population despite its poor hospitals.
