The film follows architect Martin Berger (Hanns Zischler) as he is assigned to modernize a squatted house in Berlin's Kreuzberg district. There, he meets Anna Bach (Sabine Bach), a young student and member of a grassroots initiative trying to preserve the quarter. As they fall in love, Martin changes sides and supports the inhabitants against real estate speculators, causing tension with his job and relationships.
