In "Xala," El Hadji Abdoukader Beye, a wealthy businessman in Senegal (Thierno Leye), is cursed with erectile dysfunction on his wedding day to his third wife, Ngoné. The only cure for this affliction is brutal public humiliation, and the film satirizes the corruption of African post-independence governments through El Hadji's impotence. As El Hadji navigates this humiliation, he faces various challenges, including a failed business and a confrontation with a blind beggar who claims to have cursed him.
