Doug Martin (Nick Jonas), a 17-year-old teenager, starts an affair with Elliot Harper's (Dermot Mulroney) young wife, Lena Harper (Isabel Lucas). After a suspicious death and substantial life insurance policy, Doug finds himself entangled in a scandal as Angie Alvarez (Kandyse McClure), an insurance investigator, digs deeper into the circumstances surrounding Elliot's death. As Doug tries to prove his innocence, he realizes that Lena has been manipulating him, intending to frame him for murder.
