In this poignant and introspective drama, set in Dublin in 1904, the boundaries of marriage are tested when a husband and wife confront the unresolved emotions of their past. The evening's conviviality is disrupted by the arrival of Gretta's long-forgotten memories of her deceased lover, Michael Furey, forcing Gabriel to reexamine his own feelings and the true meaning of love and loss. As the night wears on, the facade of propriety crumbles, revealing the complexity and depth of human relationships, in a masterful adaptation of James Joyce's celebrated short story.
