Bobby Eckert (Paul Le Mat), a young auto mechanic, and Rose Miller, a single mother, fall in love on their first date after Bobby accidentally kills a store clerk during their ice skating outing. The couple then go on the run from the law as they try to escape their past mistakes. Along the way, they meet a flamboyant Texan couple, Buford and Donna Sue, who invite them to join them in Mexico. However, Rose still misses her young son, and Bobby and Rose's relationship is put to the test as they face numerous challenges and ultimately, tragedy.
