A young white boy, Jim Aherne Jr., is the sole survivor of a Crow Indian raid on a wagon train. He's rescued by the Sioux and raised as one of their own, becoming War Bonnet, a man torn between his loyalty to his tribe and his European heritage. When gold is discovered in the Black Hills and the Sioux demand respect for their territorial sovereignty, War Bonnet is sent to Fort Duane to negotiate with the U.S. government, but tensions rise as he's forced to choose between his two worlds, leading him down a path of violence and betrayal that will determine the fate of both tribes.
