In 1943, competitive sisters Dottie Hinson (Geena Davis) and Kit Keller (Lori Petty) travel to Chicago for tryouts with the Rockford Peaches, a professional all-female baseball league funded by Walter Harvey. They meet other players, including taxi dancer Mae Mordabito (Madonna), softball player Marla Hooch (Rosie O'Donnell), and coach Jimmy Dugan (Tom Hanks), who initially treats the team as a joke but eventually leads them to victory in the World Series. The film is a story about friendships, challenges, and differing complications of war, all set against the backdrop of baseball.
