Antonio Pappano

Biography

Sir Antonio Pappano is a renowned English-Italian conductor and pianist born on December 30, 1959. He became music director of La Monnaie in 1992, holding the post until 2002, before being named music director of the Royal Opera House at Covent Garden in that same year. Pappano's tenure has spanned over two decades, with his current contract running through to 2023 and a recent extension until 2024. He received a Gold Medal from the Royal Philharmonic Society in 2015.
