Bob Bowes

Biography

Robert William Bowes was a British actor and teacher whose sole film appearance was as Mr Gryce in Ken Loach's 1969 adaptation of Barry Hines' "A Kestrel for a Knave". Bowes played the strict and abusive headmaster, serving as a contrast to the pastoral approach shown by the character of Mr Farthing. Born in Durham, he later worked as a teacher before taking on this unique film role.
