Biography

Ulrike Ottinger is a German filmmaker and photographer born on June 6, 1942, in Konstanz, Germany. She began studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich as a painter before moving to Paris from 1962 to 1968, where she honed her skills with various artistic techniques. Ottinger's films, characterized by stylization and fantasy, have explored marginalized spectator positions and conventions of art cinema since her debut screenplay in 1966.
