Layne Staley

Biography

Layne Thomas Staley was an American singer-songwriter born on August 22, 1967, who rose to international fame as the original lead vocalist of Alice in Chains, a key act in Seattle's grunge movement. He was known for his distinctive vocal style and harmonies with Jerry Cantrell, and his band's EP Jar of Flies debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 in 1994. Staley also formed the supergroup Mad Season, and struggled with heroin abuse before his tragic death in 2002.
