Damla Sönmez was born on May 3, 1987, in Istanbul, Turkey. She trained in cities throughout Europe and studied at Université de La Sorbonne Nouvelle Paris III Theatre department before returning to Yeditepe University Fine Arts Theatre Department in Istanbul. Her breakthrough role came with "Bornova Bornova" (2009), earning her awards including the Antalya Golden Orange Award and Ankara Flying Broom Women's Film Festival Award.
