He rose to fame with his groundbreaking free solo ascents of big wall climbing routes, including the first-ever big-wall free-solo ascent at grade 5.13a on El Capitan in Yosemite National Park and a record-breaking climb up Taipei 101 tower in Taiwan. A two-time Piolet d'Or winner, he has broken numerous speed records in the sport.
