Biography

Gualtiero Jacopetti was born in Barga, northern Tuscany, on September 4, 1919. He co-founded Cronache, a liberal newsweekly that published risqué photographs of actress Sophia Loren, leading to its shutdown and his own prison sentence. After serving time, he began directing documentary films, including the influential "Mondo" series with Paolo Cavara and Franco Prosperi. Jacopetti's work as a director spanned several decades, culminating in notable projects like "The Godfathers of Mondo".
