Biography

Ayaan Hirsi Ali is a Somali-born Dutch-American activist and author. Born in 1969, she fled Somalia at five and later received political asylum in the Netherlands. Elected to parliament in 2003, her film Submission sparked death threats, leading to Theo van Gogh's murder, and drove her into hiding. Her renunciation of childhood faith and involvement in Dutch politics have made her a prominent voice on feminist issues and conservative thought.
