Yoshishige Yoshida
Biography
Yoshishige Yoshida was a renowned Japanese film director and screenwriter who graduated from Tokyo University with a focus on French literature. He debuted as a director in 1960 with Rokudenashi and later left the studio system to start his own production company, where he directed films like Eros + Massacre. Known for his work during the Japanese New Wave, Yoshida has directed over 20 films between 1960 and 2004, including A Promise after a long absence from the screen following the 1973 Coup d'État.
