Biography

Richard O'Barry, born Richard Barry O'Feldman on October 14, 1939, made a name for himself in the 1960s by capturing and training the five dolphins used in the popular TV series Flipper. After one of the dolphins, Kathy, died in his arms, he transitioned to advocating against captivity industries and founded the Dolphin Project in 1970. O'Barry was featured in the Academy Award-winning film The Cove (2009), exposing dolphin drive hunting in Taiji, Japan.
