Elena Poniatowska

Biography

Elena Poniatowska is a French-born Mexican journalist and author, born in Paris to upper-class parents who fled Mexico during the Mexican Revolution. She left France at ten to escape World War II and began writing for Excélsior at 18, defying the limited opportunities for women in journalism at the time. Her notable work includes "La noche de Tlatelolco", a book about the 1968 student protests in Mexico City, earning her the nickname "the Red Princess".
