Biography

Arthur Godfrey was a prominent American radio and television broadcaster, celebrated for his folksy image and iconic sponsorships, including Chesterfield cigarettes and Lipton Tea. He rose to fame in the early 1950s with multiple daily broadcasts on CBS, but an infamous on-air firing of a cast member, Julius La Rosa, in 1953 severely damaged his reputation. Godfrey went on to become a prominent anti-smoking education advocate after being diagnosed with lung cancer related to smoking.
