Biography

Masao Inoue was a Japanese actor and film director born on June 15, 1881, in Ehime Prefecture. He appeared on stage at 17 and later became a prominent performer in shinpa theater, also founding the Shin Jidaigeki Kyōkai in 1910. Inoue directed the reformist film "The Captain's Daughter" (1917) and starred in Teinosuke Kinugasa's experimental masterpiece "A Page of Madness" (1926). He was elected to the Japan Art Academy in 1949.
