Celia Birtwell

Biography

Celia Birtwell, CBE, is a British textile designer and fashion designer born in 1941, raised in Lancashire. She studied textile design at the Royal Technical College, Salford, and gained prominence in the London fashion industry with her distinctive bold, romantic designs that epitomized the 1960s/70s. After a period away from fashion, Birtwell returned to the industry in the early 21st century, with her designs influencing the scene until Vivienne Westwood's rise to fame.
