Richard Kern is a New York underground filmmaker, writer, and photographer known for his work in the East Village of the 1980s. He directed erotic and experimental films featuring prominent figures like Lydia Lunch, David Wojnarowicz, and Henry Rollins, exploring the aesthetics of extreme sex, violence, and perversion through the Cinema of Transgression movement. His self-produced magazines, including The Heroin Addict, expressed the bleakness of the era.
