Ian MacKaye

Biography

Ian MacKaye is a founding member and owner of Dischord Records, a Washington, D.C.-based independent record label. He's best known as the frontman of influential hardcore punk bands Minor Threat and Fugazi, as well as post-hardcore bands Embrace and The Evens. MacKaye is credited with coining the term "straight edge" to describe an ideology that eschews substance abuse, and has produced releases by numerous notable bands. He's a key figure in hardcore punk's development.
