Chief John Big Tree was a renowned Seneca actor who appeared in over 60 films between 1915 and 1950, including notable roles in She Wore a Yellow Ribbon (1949), Drums Along the Mohawk (1939), and Devil's Doorway (1950). He claimed to be one of three Native American chiefs featured on the obverse of the Indian Head nickel, but his claims were disputed. A member of the Seneca Nation, Big Tree left behind a lasting legacy in Hollywood.
