Jupiter Bokondji is a Congolese musician born on December 16, 1963. He co-founded Okwess International in 1990 and led the band through turbulent times, including the First Congo War, during which some members fled Europe for safety while he stayed in Kinshasa. His music, known as "Bofenia Rock," blends Afropop, funk, and rock with socially conscious lyrics that critique the Congolese government.
