Billy Redden
Biography
Billy Redden is a born-and-bred Georgian, hailing from Rabun County, where he was discovered at 15 by talent scout Lynn Stalmaster. His unique look - skinny frame, large head, and almond-shaped eyes - landed him the role of Lonnie in John Boorman's Deliverance (1972). Redden may not be a skilled banjo player himself, but his unusual features made him the perfect fit for the film's iconic "dueling banjos" scene.
