Biography

Jayne County (born July 13, 1947) is an American singer, songwriter, actress, and visual artist whose career spans six decades. A pioneering figure in proto-punk, she rose to prominence in the 1970s as the lead vocalist of Wayne County & the Electric Chairs, known for their campy and outrageous stage antics. In 1979, she became rock's first openly transgender singer, adopting the name Jayne County. Her music has encompassed glam punk, punk rock, blues rock, and boogie-woogie.
