Idi Amin

Biography

Idi Amin Dada was a Ugandan military leader and President from 1971 to 1979, rising through the ranks of the British colonial army before seizing power in a coup d'état. He ruled with brutal force, characterized by human rights abuses and economic mismanagement, leaving an estimated 100,000 to 500,000 deaths under his regime. Amin's regime was backed by Libya's Muammar al-Gaddafi and the Soviet Union before ultimately collapsing due to dissent and a war with Tanzania.
