Wendell Phillips Smalley was a renowned American silent film director and actor, born in Brooklyn, New York. He began his career in vaudeville before transitioning to films in 1910, directing over 300 movies by 1921, including the notable "Too Wise Wives" (1921) as John Daly. Married to actress Lois Weber from 1904 to 1922, Smalley later married Phyllis Lorraine Ephlin, with whom he remained until his death in 1939.
