Hertha Thiele

Biography

Hertha Thiele was a German actress who made her mark on stage and screen during Germany's Weimar Republic and early years of the Third Reich. She gained international recognition for her role as Manuela in the lesbian-themed film Mädchen in Uniform (1931), which became a star-making vehicle after its all-female cast and brief distribution abroad. Thiele also starred in the stage play adaptation, Gestern und heute.
