Biography

Ari Up was a German vocalist and founding member of the English post-punk band The Slits, forming the group at 14 with drummer Palmolive in 1976. Her flamboyant stage presence and love of reggae led to the Slits' distinctive "jungly" dub style. After a 20-year hiatus, Up reformed the band with new members in 2005, releasing an EP before passing away from breast cancer in Los Angeles at 48 in 2010.
