Jim Thorpe
Biography
James Francis Thorpe was a Native American athlete who won Olympic gold medals in the 1912 Summer Olympics, setting records in both the decathlon and pentathlon. Considered one of the most versatile athletes of modern sports, he also excelled in football, baseball, and basketball. Despite losing his titles due to amateurism rules, Thorpe's achievements were later restored by the International Olympic Committee in 1983. He is remembered as a pioneering figure in American athletics.
