David R. Terrell was born and raised in Los Angeles, California, where he excelled as a two-sport athlete at Thomas Jefferson High School. He caught the attention of baseball scouts, including Don Newcomb, who offered him a walk-on opportunity with the Dodgers. However, Terrell's youthful arrogance led to his dismissal from the team, teaching him a valuable lesson about perseverance.
