Madeleine Albright

Biography

Madeleine Albright was a trailblazing American diplomat and politician who made history as the first female United States Secretary of State from 1997 to 2001 under President Bill Clinton. Born in Prague, Czechoslovakia, she immigrated to the US at age 11 and became a U.S. citizen in 1957, later earning a PhD from Columbia University. A member of the Democratic Party, Albright served as aide to Senator Edmund Muskie before joining academia and advising presidential candidates on foreign policy.
