Yma Sumac was a Peruvian-American coloratura soprano renowned for her extraordinary vocal range, which earned her a Guinness World Record in 1956. A pioneer of world music, she became an international sensation in the 1950s, topping the Billboard 200 with her debut album "Voice of the Xtabay" and performing sold-out shows on Broadway and at Carnegie Hall. She also broke barriers as the first Latin American woman to receive a phonograph record star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
