George Thomas Moore Marriott was a celebrated English character actor, best remembered for his collaborations with Will Hay. He made his stage debut at five and initially intended to train as an architect before pursuing acting. Marriott became typecast as playing elderly roles, particularly the iconic "Jeremiah Harbottle" character, which he first portrayed in the 1920s.
