George Herbert Leigh-Mallory was a pioneering English mountaineer who played a pivotal role in the first three British Everest expeditions of the 1920s. His most notable feat was his ill-fated 1924 expedition with partner Andrew "Sandy" Irvine, during which they were last seen ascending near the summit. A respected figure in British climbing circles, Mallory's service in World War I and later expeditions cemented his legacy as a trailblazer in mountaineering.
