Jakucho Setouchi
Biography
Jakucho Setouchi was a Japanese Buddhist nun, writer, and activist, born Harumi Mitani on May 15, 1922, in Tokushima Prefecture. She wrote over 400 novels, including a best-selling translation of The Tale of Genji, and was honoured as a Person of Cultural Merit in 1997. Setouchi was awarded the Order of Culture of Japan in 2006 for her contributions to literature and culture.
