John J. Mellencamp, born October 7, 1951, is a singer-songwriter known for his heartland rock style and traditional instrumentation. With a string of top 10 singles in the 1980s, including "Hurts So Good" and "Jack & Diane", he became one of the most successful artists of that era, with over 60 million albums sold worldwide. He's also a co-founder of Farm Aid, an organization raising awareness for American farmers since 1985.
