Yukio Ninagawa

Biography

Yukio Ninagawa was a Japanese theatre director and actor known for his distinct renditions of Shakespeare's Hamlet and Greek tragedies. He directed eight versions of Hamlet, as well as works by contemporary Japanese writers, including Yukio Mishima's Modern Noh plays. His productions toured internationally, including performances at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in England and the Barbican Arts Centre in London. Ninagawa was also a professor emeritus at Toho Gakuen College of Drama and Music.
