Dianne Emiel Feinstein was a trailblazing American politician who served as California's first female U.S. senator from 1992 until her death in 2023. Prior to her senate tenure, she successfully led San Francisco as its mayor from 1978 to 1988, becoming the city's first woman to hold the position after Mayor George Moscone's assassination. She authored the 1994 Federal Assault Weapons Ban and held notable committee chairmanships during her distinguished career.
